With countless hours spent on ML research, product research, achieving product-market fit in multiple roles, and seeing firsthand the transformative impact of well-built Agentic AI systems on enterprises, the journey towards making a truly visionary product with GWE has been incredibly rewarding. The realization of our ambitions with Agentic AI has produced outsized returns for our early customers, and we’re now excited to roll this out to more companies in 2025.

The Vision Behind GWE

Driving transformation with Gen AI proved to be more challenging than most executives anticipated. Enterprises initially approached the new AI wave with the same ambition -to unlock the maximum amount of value in the shortest amount of time. Find good use cases across roles, adopt the best applications, and change the way humans work with AI.

But leaders ran into challenges as widespread as their goals:

  • Widespread fragmentation: Most bottom-up efforts to achieve this goal lead to teams acquiring vertical solutions, or upgrading existing apps to access experimental, co-pilot AI features. This only added to the chaos that is SaaS usage. Dozens and even hundreds of new apps were added to the mix, each requiring its own acquisition process, proof of concept, training, and maintenance. Ultimately, this lead to duplicate effort across teams, especially since none of these AI solutions could learn from or talk to each other. Moreover, cookie cutter solutions rarely fit the complex workflows that humans deal with everyday.
  • Unreliable and underwhelming outcomes: Gen AI was quickly rejected due to hallucinations and lack of impactful use cases, with the industry quickly moving to Agentic AI. Top down efforts from executives usually culminated in the acquisition of horizontal assistants or copilots, leading to the nightmare of shallow adoption (with 5 queries per day being seen as a gold standard) and endless POCs on experimental new capabilities, all in pursuit of 10% productivity gains.

These problems quickly became obvious as we built custom solutions for diverse enterprise use cases as early as 2023, before Agentic AI was the buzzword it is today. An innovative solution emerged at Ema: What if we could build a horizontal platform that easily gives rise to vertical Agentic AI tools, which can adapt, learn, and excel at specialized tasks, and also benefit from being able to talk to each other, breaking down data silos, simplifying software usage, and unlocking new efficiencies?

These realizations proved themselves right as we built GWE:

  • Common functionalities reused across use cases: Different functions often share common workflows, allowing for the reuse of core capabilities across departments. Unlike vertical AI solutions, Ema’s AI employees could de-duplicate this work and increase adoption speed, performance, and impact.
  • Diverse workflows across similar roles: The same job title in two different organizations can involve entirely different workflows, making fixed, off-the-shelf vertical AI products inadequate. It is necessary for AI tools to be very configurable, so that it can adapt to real world workflows easily.

For example, a healthcare client of ours realized that parts of their clinical team, recruitment team and compliance team all performed similar tasks. They all referred to a set of policies and ensured these policies are being met in certain domains.

On the other hand, Agentic AI solutions for Prior Auth weren’t able to interleave their existing case management workflows, or effectively understand the complexities for certain drugs.

GWE also sets the agents up with the right data sources, app connections and instructions, seeking human help where needed.
